Use this document to notify your employer that you wish to take up to two weeks' paternity leave (‘ordinary paternity leave’) and (if applicable) receive statutory ordinary paternity pay, following the birth of a child. This letter will assist you in determining whether or not you have a statutory entitlement to ordinary paternity leave. If you do not, you will still be able to proceed, but the granting of leave will be at your employer's discretion. Also, this letter is not suitable when you are taking adoption paternity leave: please use our 'Paternity leave letter for adoptions' instead.
