What is the Public Guardian?

Public Guardian

The Public Guardian was established under Section 57 of the Mental Capacity Act (What is mental capacity?). The Public Guardian is supported by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), which supervises deputies (What is a deputy?); keeps a register of deputies, lasting powers of attorney and enduring powers of attorney (Enduring power of attorney); and investigates any complaints about attorneys or deputies.

The OPG replaces the Public Guardianship Office that has been in existence for many years.
